Many volunteers braved the muddy conditions to plant 366 trees in the grounds of Gendros Community Centre over the weekend.

Cockett Lib Dem Councillor Veronyca Bates-Hughes who witnessed the event said: "This was a great effort by the community volunteers despite the inclement weather over the last couple of days."

The tree planting was part of the BBC's "Tree o'clock" which aims to set a world record for the number of trees planted in one hour. Fellow Cockett Lib Dem Councillor Keith Morgan and witness said: "Gendros was one of many centres across the UK. Guinness are quite strict about proving the record is valid. Witnesses had to complete detailed paperwork."

The existing world record for trees planted by hand by any number of people within a single hour is 653,143. Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Swansea West who assisted with the count said: "We won't know whether the record has been broken until next Friday. That's the deadline that all the contributions have to be with the BBC."
